Professional Development 2.0

What are your favorite personal learning networking tools? How do you use them?
I love Ning (needless to say)

Twitter is invaluable for resources, networking and staying up to date on events.

Still trying to decide the best social bookmarking tool for me.
Used to use del.icio.us - moved to buzka for teacher resources and now am on the diigo bandwagon.
What are you finding useful?

I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier, the notification email went into my spam folder for some reason.
We are just getting our IVC equipment installed and learning the process. I might set up a connection with you (when I figure it out) and get you to preview one of our first presentation designs. Embedding the arts into instruction is one a component of our mission and it's also one of our strengths, so we are looking to see how that translates into this arena.

As an aside, we are writing two Goal 2 IES proposals for consideration in this funding cycle. One is centered on developing algebraic reasoning with middle school teachers, using a blended PD approach that intentionaly embeds the use of interactive web technologies to help students process the information, interact with the concepts, reflect on their learning, etc. and the second is similar in framework, but focused on developing content literacy using our Adolescent Literacy Model with paired middle and high schools (focusing attention to a team in the 8th grade and a team in the freshman academy during the development phase). I'm excited about the projects. We are teaming with CREP from the University of Memphis, and are hoping to bring Clif Mimms in on at least one of the projects. I might pick your brain as we find out more about the project (we won't even know about acceptance of the proposal until March, but it's where a considerable amount of my thinking has been for the last two weeks).

Have a great weekend. BTW I just finished my coursework for my doctorate and can now focus on my comps and dissertation topic!! Taking the summer off, though.

Fabulous projects and a true embedded PD paradigm. I am impressed and anxious to hear more as you progress. All the best on your proposals!
Congrats on your progress toward a doctorate. I decided a few years ago that I would rather continue my education through a less formal process. Since my Masters and web design certification, I have been expanding my PLN and attending seminars and conferences (virtually and f2f). It has really worked for me.
I am using diigo heavily. The ability to highlight and annotate puts it a notch above the other social bookmarking tools in my book.

I'm also using Evernote for bookmarking stuff from the non-virtual world. Its OCR functionality makes it terrific for creating searchable versions of scanned documents and even snapshots of business cards, chalk board drawings, and handwritten notes. It's nice to be able to quickly capture impromptu doodles, handwrite tags, and then be able to find things again later. The "social" aspect of Evernote isn't quite fully realized yet, but it's getting better with every update.

I think Diigo is an invaluable asset for teaching and teachers - setting up educational groups and then adding notations to different webpages - either those by experts or other students is one of the best learning tools ever.

Used to use Evernote, but have gotten away from it - I am spending a lot of time in Google Apps now - teachers really like the collaboration aspect.
We are attempting some student portfolios - for student led conferences there.
